TrueSense Internships Teach More Than Just Employable Skills

An internship can be exciting — an opportunity to get real world experience from knowledgeable professionals, cultivate skills that will help throughout your career, and build your professional network.

At TrueSense, we have the unique opportunity to invest in our interns in two ways: providing valuable business experience and exposing them to the important work of nonprofits. Our hope is that our interns leave their time with us believing that donors are heroes, an unstoppable force for good through their giving.

Here’s what our interns said about their summer with TrueSense:

Q. What did you learn about nonprofits and/or fundraising?

A. During my time here, I learned how much time, effort, and preparation goes into making a fundraising campaign successful. Each team involved is vital for success. Also, I learned a lot about how the fundraising process works, specifically digital fundraising.

This internship showed me how much nonprofits rely on these campaigns in order to achieve their goals. Without generous donors, these charities couldn’t do what they do best.

Q. How do you feel like you made a difference?

A. I made a difference during this internship by entering timelines, pulling data for analysis, or simply sitting in on meetings and taking notes — anything that helped further a project, task, or meeting I was happy to help! Because I was able to handle regular maintenance tasks, time was created for others to complete high-priority tasks.

Q. Will your experience here change what you had planned to do in the future?

A. My time at TrueSense has made me want to work with nonprofit organizations in my future career endeavors. After seeing the passion that the team members have for the client organizations that they oversee, I hope to have the opportunity to work for an organization that I feel the same passion for.

Q. Are you planning to work or volunteer for a nonprofit in the future?

A. Being involved with charities is something I had always thought about, and this internship has made me more interested to get involved. I am involved in Greek life at my university, and our organization supports Ronald McDonald House Charities, specifically Ronald McDonald House of Akron, throughout the year. We work closely with these organizations, providing volunteers at the house and holding events to raise money to donate to the charities. I love working to help out in any way that I can!

As our summer interns are heading back to school this week, we wish them all the best in their future endeavors and hope that helping others will continue to be an important part of their priorities. If you’d like to be a part of the TrueSense team, check out our open positions.
